LADY EAGLES REPEAT AS CIAA CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONS

     CARY, N.C. -- North Carolina Central University placed five of the top six runners to dominate the field and repeat as CIAA Women's Cross Country Champions on Thursday (Oct. 19) at SAS Park in Cary, N.C.
     Six Lady Eagles claimed all-conference honors by finishing in the Top 10. NCCU freshman Ashley Cooke, a native of Hampton, Va., led the charge by winning the individual conference crown with a time of 19:28.68 on the 5k-course. She was closely followed by teammates Aisha Brown, a junior from Raleigh, N.C., in second place (19:41.73), and Yolanda Barber, a junior from Suitland, Md., in third place (20:01.35).
     NCCU sophomore LaTanya Lesine (Durham, N.C.) finished fifth (20:35.20), freshman Erinn Brooks (Indianapolis, Ind.) placed sixth (20:43.11), and freshman Desinia Johnson (Raleigh, N.C.) captured eighth (21:09.70) to round out the Lady Eagle All-CIAA performers. NCCU sophomore Lakisha Gantt (Washington, D.C.) finished just one spot from all-conference honors in 11th (21:40.61).
     The NCCU men placed fourth in the team standings. Two Eagles earned All-CIAA honors, as sophomore Gerald Jones (Raleigh, N.C.) finished eighth (27:57.27) and junior Robert Curington (Durham, N.C.) ran ninth (28:31.33) on the 8k-course.
