CIAA
CIAA is not just about basketball, many
students look forward to the weeks events.

CIAA still poppin' off

By Chasity Richardson

It’s that time of year again: basketball games, step shows, fashion shows and so much more.

The CIAA tournament is back and being hosted in Charlotte.

Even though N.C. Central University is no longer in the conference, many students are still holding on to tradition and heading down for various events.

“Yes, I am still going to Charlotte for CIAA,” said mass communication senior Brittney Benson. “It saddens me that we are no longer in the conference but I still feel the need to go and support the festivities.”

The one-week soulabration of 2008 began Monday with the women’s basketball tournament and continues throughout the week with the final two teams squaring off on Saturday with finals.

The men’s tournament begins today at 7 p.m. and continues until Saturday. On Thursday, company representatives from all over will check out potential recruits at the annual career expo.

Later, head out for a night on the town at the ultimate CIAA kick-off party at Grand Central.

Advance tickets can be purchased at hardrock-ent.com. Friday night, some of the best step teams in the Carolinas will represent at the annual CIAA step-off. Tickets are available at ticketmaster.com.

At 11 p.m., Yung Joc will host the step show throwdown after party.

Into fashion? Join CIAA and Ebony magazine for their annual fashion show. Tickets are available at ticketmaster.com.

End the weekend well by attending BET’s Big Tigger’s C.I. Celebrity Red Carpet Party at 9 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are available at www.fab5entertainment.com.

On Sunday, join Rejoice Musical Soul Food at the 3rd Annual CIAA Gospel Explosion. The event will feature award-winning national and local recording artists — and it’s free.
