This spring, fans of Big Boi from Outkast may be surprised by the musician’s latest collaboration.
Instead of working with other popular hip hop artists, the Grammy Award winner will pair up with dancers from the Atlanta Ballet Company for six live performances from April 10-13.
The performance, entitled “Big,” shows great promise as it encompasses art forms from both sides of the tracks. Along with Antwan “Big Boi” Patton are other members of Purple Ribbon Entertainment.
Critically acclaimed choreographer Lauri Stallings worked with dancers to thread the music, movement and theater to create something new.
Outkast fans will be treated to a great live show with favorites like “Bombs over Baghdad” and “Morris Brown” performed.
This is a distinct departure from the productions usually put on by Atlanta’s premier ballet ensemble.
The dancers involved believe that fans of both traditional ballet and mainstream hip hop will find something enjoyable in this creative blend of two versatile art forms.
For Stallings, the performance is an attempt to appeal to all the audience’s senses and to draw everyone closer through collective inspiration.
For the dancers, it’s about bringing the diverse Atlanta community together.
The show will be divided into two acts, which are further broken down into about ten vignettes.
Each depicts a separate story that connects thematically from chapter to chapter.
The show will be held in Atlanta’s Fabulous Fox Theater.
