“Always exceeding the norm and breaking the chains of society through productive means.
“Through production we intend to establish wealth while serving the community.”
These words are taken from the mission statement of the Green Team, a production company taking the entertainment industry by storm.
It’s Monday night. Members are arriving, dressed in hues of green T-shirts with matching wrist bands that read “Green Team.”
Its about 9:30 p.m., and Green Team Productions is ready to start its weekly meeting.
It’s early March, and the team is eager to discuss upcoming events.
The team recently participated in the 34th Annual Durham Crop Hunger Awareness Walk at Duke University March 16.
The Green Team, which began as a homecoming promotion team when former SGA President Mukhtar Raqib was in office, has evolved into what could be a future entertainment conglomerate.
Green symbolizes purity, environment, sincerity and peace of mind.
In most organizations, it is typical to have an executive board which consists of a president, vice president, secretary, and so on, but in the Green Team there isn’t any hierarchy.
“Everybody lets others be free. All equals,” said NCCU former SGA president, Mukhtar Raqib.
“It’s a family.
“We are brothers and sisters, kings and queens.”
Although the Green Team does not have a traditional executive board, individual members are responsible for various segments of the company.
Legal Green is the segment of the company that takes care of the business matters.
Green Monster Music deals with the group’s music production.
Green Community sponsors different events which directly involves members of the Durham community.
“We go off in different directions but come back to the same point: 10 guys, one goal, different mindset,” said Andre Blandon, Green Team member and theatre senior.
Green Team refers to itself as a tree deeply rooted in Africa, promoting a change for the better.
“We got a lot to do,” Blandon said.
“We are grinding on humble means.
“We got the vision and we know where we going.”
