N.C. Central University alumna Mattie R. Sharpless, has been named Ambassador of the United States of America to the Central African Republic.
Sharpless, a native of Hampstead, N.C., earned a master’s degree in business administration and economics. In 1965 she joined the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service. She has served in a variety of posts in foreign agricultural trade relations in Washington D.C. and abroad and has been responsible for monitoring trade issues, negotiations, and agreements in Paris and Geneva.
