40 million in U.S. without health insurance

About 40 million Americans do not have health insurance according to a National Academies web site that discusses the insured and uninsured in the United States. According to the site 80 percent of the uninsured are employed or are members of working families.

The total number of those without health insurance is more than the combined population of Connecticut, Texas and Florida.

This web site is a new publication of the National Academy Press.

The report is just one of six in a series issued by the Institute of Medicine.

For more information, visit http://www.nationalacademies.org and go the link “Coverage

Matters” to find out more on the state of health insurance in the United States.
