Katerina Glosova won the CIAA Women’s Cross-country championship for the third year-in-a-row on Oct. 25 in Greensboro.
As the cross-country season came to an end, the women’s team made up for lost ground while the men’s team continued to struggle.
The women’s team, winning the NCCU Invitational on Oct. 13th, and finishing second in the CIAA Championship to CIAA rival St. Augustine on Oct. 25th in Greensboro, came a long way from where they started at the beginning of the season.
The CIAA Championship at Hagan Stone Park in Greensboro was the last chance for the women’s team to show just how good they have gotten this season.
Even with Glosova winning the championship and successfully defending her crown as the women’s champion for the third year in a row, NCCU could not get past the Lady Falcons of St. Augustine.
Glosova’s first place time was 20:02 and Blake’s third place time was 20:32. Moten finished the meet with a time of 21:38.
Despite these times, St. Augustines got the the upper hand in points and the Falcons ended the day with 37 points.
N.C. Central had 58 points on the day and even though they didn’t win, they still earned a spot in the Southern Regional to be held at Hagan Stone Park. Moten and Blake both earned CIAA All-Conference honors.
At the NCCU Invitational, held at Forest Hills Park, the lady Eagles took three of the top five finishes. Leading the way was Katerina Glosova.
Glosova, first overall, led the way with a time of 19:40 to earn one point for the Eagles.
Right behind Glosova was freshmen standout L’Nida Blake, who came in second place overall with a time of 20:24.
Junior Kennisha Moten was the final Eagle in the top five with a fourth place time of 22:23.
The men’s team has struggled all year and continued to do so at the championships. They ended up placing fifth with a total of 154 points.
Austin-Lamar Hogan, who amassed a time of 31:38 which gave him 15th place, led NCCU in the contest. Junior Randy V’Estres came in right behind him at 16th with a time of 31:48.
