N.C. Central University police and officials are investigating the death of an NCCU student on Tuesday evening.
According to the Durham Police Department records division, a 911 call was made at approximately 7:51 p.m. from Richmond Hall dormitory, where 20-year-old Charlotte sophomore, Anthony Pettaway, was found dead in his room.
“The entire university community is saddened by the passing of Mr. Pettaway and our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time,” said Chancellor Charlie Nelms, in a statement released this afternoon.
Nelms said the investigation into Pettaway’s death is ongoing and there are no indications of foul play.
“NCCU has a number of strategies in place to ensure the safety and security of students on campus,” said NCCU Police Chief Willie Williams in a press release issued today. “The health, safety, and well-being of our students is our highest priority.”
