Robinson, Kongolo, Boston honored
Post-season honors went to NCCU coach and players after a brilliant season on the court.

N.C. Central Women’s head basketball coach Joli Robinson ended her 2000-01 season with the honor of being named the WBCA Division II District 3 Coach of the Year by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association March 12.

This past season was the best in school history as Robinson led the Lady Eagles to a 25-6 record and the first at-large bid for women’s basketball in school history to the NCAA Division II Tournament in which they advanced to the second round.

On top of this honor, she was also named the CIAA Women’s coach of the year.

Junior Amba Kongola was selected to the 2001 Daktronics Inc./CoSIDA NCAA Division II All-South Atlantic Region First Team announced on Mar. 6.

Kongolo was also named the CIAA Women’s player of the year as she led the team in scoring and shot blocking. She also earned a spot on the CIAA All-Tournament Team.

Senior Jimmy Boston, like Kongolo was named to the 2000-01 Daktronics Inc./CoSIDA NCAA Division II Basketball All-South Atlantic Region First Team on Mar. 5.

Boston ends four years at NCCU with First Team All-CIAA honors, CIAA All-Tournament Team honors in two different seasons. Boston was CIAA Rookie of the Year in 1998’.

Boston leaves NCCU ninth on the scoring list with 1,376 points, an average of 14 pts per game.

To end his collegiate basketball career, Boston was selected to play in the Black College All-Star Basketball Game on Apr. 21 in Baltimore, MD.
