Yah Heard?: "What is Love?"

Joe Wright

Springtime is here: sunshine, smiles and sinuses. Can’t you just feel the 80 degree breeze? Can’t you just see the skin?

The feeling of skipping class to waste time on/off the yard ... the feeling of a hot room because the air is not on yet...

The Magnum P.I. reruns, and the taste of icees from the old man who pushes around a block of ice for a living.

The loud cars and jeeps ... the not-so-loud cars and jeeps ... the bikes ... the resurrection of 10:40 break.

Busts, butts and toes out ... so called muscles in oversized wife-beaters.

Love--oops--did I say love? Yes, just like you probably have told someone one too many times.

What exactly is love?

It’s such a controversial topic amongst us and our peers. I can’t call it--for my health and sanity-- I wouldn’t even try to give it a cut-in-stone definition.

So I went to the source--the students--and asked: "What’s the truth on love?"

One young lady said, "Love is when you care for someone so much, you put their needs first and your needs second."

Uhh, well to me that sounds like you’ve indulged in someone so much you don’t care about yourself.

Nice try, sweetie.

Another young lady said, "Love is thinking about someone all the time, and assuring them you will be there for them."

Well if that’s the case, I’m in love with Wachovia Bank because I owe them $48.52, and I think about that all the time. Even though my bank was there for me when I didn’t have any money, I wish they would have not dished out that damn insufficient funds charge.

The last young lady I asked (are you catching the pattern here) said, "Love is the strong feelings you have for someone, and you’ll do anything for them."

Okay, I can agree with the feelings part, but I’m not going to smell a steel cell again for anyone. So the "do anything" part is out!

My take on love is this: When you have $5 to your name, and you spend $3 of that on someone--that’s love.

When they call you at 4 a.m. to talk about something that is bothering them, and you actually get up to listen--that’s love.

When you ask about their family members and friends knowing that they are a part of their life--that’s love.

When you realize that Playstation, parties and Paul Masson 80 proof are not more important than that person--that’s love.

Hey, that’s just my take on it, make your own and live by it.

One love to the men/women basketball teams and everyone who came out to support the CIAA. Ms. Cheeks, The Dover boys, The Four Corners and Wide-Awake Wilson. If you haven’t seen the Temptations Movie yet--do that. Pop-ya-collars.

Peace.
