On Feb. 20 and 21, NCCU art junior Carla Aaron-Lopez launches a photo gallery in the Student Art Gallery of the Fine Arts Building.
The gallery, called "Hotel Room Shadow," emphasizes color-driven expressions that are found in the human face.
The theme of the show is the psychology of a young woman’s mind.
Each picture represents a different state of mind and a different emotion of the artist.
Angry, cool, chilled, stressed, enticing, happy, relaxed — all of these emotions are evoked through the image.
Aaron-Lopez’s compositions are strong, but the way she uses color to emphasize emotion is exquisite.
In “Nightshot #13” green on black gives a mysterious vibe that chills you to the bone. What is done in the dark can only be seen through a night-vision lens and that gives it the power of mystery.
In “Sun Kissed Me” the blend of red and orange brings a feeling of chaos and destruction.
Her facial expression shows a person suffering from a great internal struggle while falsely appearing to be in bliss.
Aaron-Lopez says she has a “plastic” photogenic ability, and that this ability lets her portray a different character in each photograph.
“I can be a rock star or any other person that I want to be,” says Aaron-Lopez.
“All the pictures were taken during low points in my life. With each picture I tried to turn a negative into a positive.”
