Commuity
Policing
Fosters
collaborative efforts between the police and the University
Community to identify and resolve issues before they
become problems.
Crime
Alert
The
crime alert is a flyer that is distributed immediately
when a crime has occurred that endangers the lives
and safety of the University family. This flyer will
also give you safety tips to help prevent the same
type incident from happening you.
Emergency
Telephones
Blue light emergency phones are located throughout
the campus. These telephones are for use when police
assistance is needed. The telephone system gives your
location to the University Police as soon as the red
button is pushed. This alerts the University Police
to respond immediately. There are 50 emergency
phones throughout the campus.
Escort
Program
The
University Police Department will provide escorts
to the University family at night from one section
of the campus to another, when requested. To receive
an escort students, faculty, or staff must contact
the Department at 919-530-6106.
Honor
Guard Team
The
Honor Guard Team is a unit, which represents the University
Police at ceremonial occasions. The Team also provides
a full military type service at funerals of active/retired
officers and those who gave their lives while serving
and protecting their community.
Residence
Hall Watch Program
This
program utilizes a proactive approach to crime prevention
whereby the students in residence halls keep watch
for any suspicious activities and/or persons in and
around the residence hall.
Operation
Eagle Identification
This
program allows the University Family to engrave their
valuables with an electric engraver. The engraver
can be checked out from the University Police Department,
Crime Prevention Division at no expense. We ask that
you put your operator's license number on the items
you engrave because it can be traced much quicker
by Police Departments across the state and country.
Once you have completed your engraving we ask that
you return the engraver promptly so others may use
it.
Training
The
Department emphasizes continuous training (mandatory
in-service and electives) for sworn and non-sworn
personnel. Officers must be up-to-date on the changing
laws and policies. Officers also receive specialized
and/or refresher training in: Firearms,
Pursuit Driving, CPR, Officer Survival, etc.
