WHO WE ARE

The Center for Child and Family Health North Carolina (CCFH) is a collaborative center comprised of professionals from NCCU School of Law, Duke University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and the non-profit Child and Parent Support Services (CAPSS).

• Founding members from NCCU School of Law have included Professor Cheryl Amana and Director of Clinical Programs Pamela Glean. 
• In 1996, with his initial offering of funding, Chancellor Julius Chambers made NCCU the first university in the region to dedicate funding to the formation of CCFH. 
• Since then, CCFH has specialized in evidence-based medical, mental health, legal and prevention assistance to children and adolescents who have been traumatized through maltreatment and other forms of loss. 
• Staff members provide training on best practices developed at CCFH which have been presented statewide, nationally and internationally.

Each year CCFH provides care to more than 2,600 at risk children in Durham and neighboring counties. The Center has also provided national assistance, including work with children traumatized during 9-11 in New York and child evacuees from Hurricane Katrina. In 2001, the U.S. Office for Victims of Crime named CCFH one of the most effective child treatment centers in the country. In 2003, CCFH joined the prestigious National Child Traumatic Stress Network as a national model in the mental health treatment of traumatized children. Currently, CCFH is engaged in dozens of grant-funded projects from collaborations with local law enforcement to services for HIV/AIDS orphans in Africa.
