Description of Library Unit. NORTH CAROLINA CENTRAL UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF LAW is conducting a national search for an experienced law librarian to serve as Director of its Law Library. The person selected for this position will be responsible for the management, initiation and implementation of library operations, programs and services, including budgeting, selection and supervision of library personnel, collection development, research, reference, long range and short term strategic planning and collection maintenance. The Director must be able to assess the current and anticipated needs of the law faculty and students. The roughly 32,000 square foot library houses nearly 400,000 volumes and volume equivalents and close to 100,000 titles. The Law Library is a selective state and federal government depository. The library staff of eight full time librarians (excluding the Director) and ten FTE paraprofessionals serves a day and evening student body of 650 students and 32 faculty members. It is committed to maintaining excellence and service. Substantial emphasis is placed on supporting and promoting faculty scholarship, development and teaching. The Director reports directly to the Dean of the Law School and is a tenure track member of the law faculty. The Director teaches in the Legal Research and Persuasion class and participates in faculty governance of the law school.

 

Position Duties: Applicants must have a J.D. from an ABA accredited law school, and an MLS from an ALA accredited institution. The candidate must have substantial law library administration experience, be committed to service, and demonstrate strong leadership, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. Law school teaching experience and an interest in academic publication are also required. Salary will be nationally competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
