Lydia E. Lavelle - Assistant Dean of Student Affairs
B.A., St. Andrews Presbyterian College; M.R.R, North Carolina State University; J.D., North Carolina Central University.
Lydia E. Lavelle, born in Athens, Ohio, graduated with a B.A. from St. Andrews Presbyterian College. She earned an M.R.R. from North Carolina State University, and worked in the field of parks and recreation administration for several years.
A 1993 graduate of the Law School's evening program, she clerked for the Honorable Clifton E. Johnson on the North Carolina Court of Appeals from 1993-1995 before obtaining a position at the NCCU School of Law. She was the Law School's first Pro Bono Coordinator and Alumni Relations Director. She is currently the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs at the Law School.
She has taught Legal Writing II, Advanced Legal Writing I, Street Law; she currently teaches Sexual Identity and the Law. She serves as a member of the Law School's Web Site Committee, CLE Committee, Law School Relations and Communications Committee and the University's Communications Committee.
Her memberships include the 14th Judicial District Bar (NC), the North Carolina Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the North Carolina Association of Women Attorneys and the North Carolina Gay Advocacy Legal Alliance. She is a past president of NCAWA and currently serves on their nominatingcommittee. She is licensed to practice law in North Carolina and Ohio. Her comment, "From the Diamonds to the Courts: Major League Baseball v. the Commissioner," was published in the North Carolina Central University Law Journal in 1995. 21 N.C. Cent. L.J. 1 (1995).
