Nelwyn Mpare - Clinical Supervising Attorney
B.A., Spelman College; J.D., North Carolina Central University.
Professor Mpare was born in Charlotte, NC. She received her undergraduate degree from Spelman College, graduating with a B.A. in political science in 1977. She received her juris doctor degree from North Carolina Central University School of Law in 1980.
After receiving her J.D., she was in private practice in Charlotte, NC and Monroe, NC until 1990. In 1990, she relocated to Durham and accepted a position as an Assistant Public Defender. Mpare returned to the private practice of law in 1994.
Before becoming a full-time clinical professor, she taught at the NCCU School of Law as an adjunct professor and clinical supervising attorney for the Criminal and Civil Litigation Clinics from 1999-2001.
She is a member of the NC State Bar, Durham County Bar, George H. White Bar, NC Association of Black Lawyers, North Carolina Bar Association and the American Bar Association.
Professor Mpare enjoys photography, music and traveling.
