Departments: Reference - (919) 530-6473

Reference materials (listed in the online catalog with "REF" preceding the call number) will be found in the Reference Department on the second floor. Dictionaries, encyclopedias, almanacs, atlases, biographical directories, bibliographies, and indexes are part of the reference collection. Reference materials do not circulate outside the library and must be used within the Reference area. This collection is designed to provide information and referral to other library resources.

Business Collection
The business collection is integrated into the regular reference collection and the general collection. A business reference librarian is available to provide services to both students and faculty members, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Individualized instruction is offered for students. School of Business faculty may request instruction geared to the specific needs of that class. Introduction to business sources and the library sessions are held each semester for new students entering the School of Business.

NCCU Theses
NCCU Theses are maintained by the Reference Department. Currently enrolled students may borrow a maximum of two theses at once for a one month period with an option for one renewal period (depending on the demand for that thesis.) A $1.00 per day fine will be charged on all overdue theses.

Archive Collection (Treasure Room)
Archive Collection (Treasure Room) contains books on Afro-Americans in North America, the West Indies, and South America, as well as earlier editions of college catalogs and yearbooks. The letter "T" in the call number indicates that the book is in the library's Treasure Room collection and may be obtained through the Reference Department. These books do not circulate outside the library.

Research Help Services
Research help services are provided to both students and faculty. Individualized instruction is available for students on the use of library resources, methods or research, and the location of materials. General library orientation classes, tours, and introductory classes on major reference resources in specific subjects can be scheduled for faculty members.

Computer assisted searches are available through DIALOG and BRS databases, which cover science, technology, business, social sciences, humanities, public affairs, and general news. Computer searches can help locate the most current information available on a topic. This fee-based service is available to students, faculty, and community residents. Users must indicate the maximum amount that they are willing to pay at the time the request is made. Prior notice is required for this service.
