SERIALS DEPARTMENT LIBRARY GUIDE
The Serials Department located on the second floor of the James E. Shepard Memorial Library houses more than 104,000 bound volumes.
The library currently subscribes to 2,000 serial publications in all formats.

Public Access Catalog. See Journal Finder to search for journals, magazines and newspapers by title.
FINDING SERIALS
The collection is arranged alphabetically by title in several locations in the Shepard Library. Current issues, abstracts, newspapers, and periodicals in microform format are located on the second floor. Current issues of popular magazines e.g. Ebony, Newsweek, Time, etc. are housed in the Reserve Department. Bound journals are located on the third floor annex. Periodicals in electronic format can be accessed from the Library's homepage.
SPECIAL AREAS WITHIN THE READING ROOM
Microform Collection: The microform collection housed
in the cabinets near the service desk includes microtext in two
formats: microfilm and microfiche. Materials in microform include
periodicals, newspapers, and books, etc.
Newspaper Area: Current issues of approximately thirty-seven
U.S. and foreign newspapers are shelved alphabetically by title
in the newspaper area. Daily newspapers are located in the newspaper
stand beside the service desk. Issues are retained for lengths
of time varying from two weeks to three months. Back issues of
newspapers on microfilm which includes: The Wall Street Journal,
The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Durham Herald
Sun are housed in the microform cabinets near the service desk.
CIRCULATION
Materials located in the Serials Department are for use in this
area only and do not circulate. Photocopy machines are
available near the Reserve service desk.
