When the North Carolina Central University (NCCU) men's basketball team captured the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) tournament championship on Saturday, March 15, they made history for the university. The victory paved the way for NCCU's first NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament appearance and the first conference tournament championship for any NCCU team since reclassifying to NCAA Division I level in 2011. The team's No. 14 seed is the best seeding for any MEAC men's basketball team in the NCAA Division I Tournament history.
NCCU is preparing for its appearance at the "Big Dance" where the Eagles will face Iowa State University on Friday, March 21, in the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas, at approximately 9 p.m. CST. Interested in attending? Click here. The game will broadcast live on TNT. If you are following their journey and want to join the #NCCU online community on social media, use the hashtag: #NCCUMBB. Here are a few media clips highlighting their tournament win and Selection Sunday celebration.
We invite the community to gather in front of the McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium (616 E. Lawson Street) at 12:30 p.m., tomorrow, Wednesday, March 19, to send the men's basketball team, MEAC Regular Season and Tournament Champions, to San Antonio and the NCAA Tournament. There will be music and surprises. In addition, t-shirts for sale commemorating the tournament championship run in the University Bookstore. Supplies are limited.
