



Dr. Sheila Bridges-Bond, CCC-SLP is an associate professor in the Department of Communication Disorders in NCCU's School of Education. Dr. Bridges-Bond is a certified speech-language pathologist who holds her doctoral degree and specializations in augmentative and alternative communication and neurogenic disorders. Dr. Bridges-Bond has maintained a long-term commitment to clinical service, research and teaching in the area of cultural and linguistic diversity.
In 1997 Dr. Bridges-Bond realized a long-term goal of establishing an inclusive preschool program for culturally and linguistically diverse children who were in need of AAC services. The project was named ATIPP The Assistive Technology for Infants and Preschoolers Project (ATIPP), which evolved through a partnership she established with the Durham Affiliate of the National Black Child Institute (NBCDI). This joint venture was funded 1997 - 1999 by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. ATIPP is an inclusive therapeutic preschool program serving toddlers and preschoolers from diverse backgrounds who benefit from assistive technology to promote, speech, language, cognitive, and social development. Over the past decade ATIPP has grown to include a lending library, AAC clinic, Parent Support Group(PACC) and a home literacy training program.
Throughout her professional career, Dr. Bridges-Bond has been an active member of the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association, serving as ex-officio and steering committee member of SID 14, ASHA's convention program committees, as well as invited presenter in the areas of AAC and culture and linguistic diversity. In 2003 Dr. Bridges-Bond was presented the award of ASHA Fellow, one of the most prestigious honors of recognition awarded by the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association. She has been an active member of the National Black Association for Speech-Language and Hearing (NBASLH) for over 20 years. In 2001 she was a recipient of the NBASLH Scholar-Mentor Award. She served as a member of NBASLH's Executive Board and for a decade served as the editor of ECHO, the professional publication of NBASLH.
