The application process is open to all students enrolled in Durham Public Schools, local charter and private schools. Demographics are the basic indicators of the Admissions process. Students must apply through a comprehensive application, review and acceptance process and must submit their report cards and attendance profiles from the 7th and 8th grade. Additionally, a written 300 word essay and three recommendations (administrators, academic teacher, and community member) must be submitted. Students who are highly responsible and eager for an academically challenging program of rigorous study, possess maturity to handle extended independence, interest in science, math and or technology, and a strong desire to succeed are encouraged to apply. The required number of high school courses and minimum college level courses are explained by Durham Public Schools personnel during an orientation session.
