Advisory Board
Mission:The Office of University-School Partnerships is an administrative unit whose mission is to link the resources of North Carolina Central University with the priorities of the university, public schools, and the greater community to respond to the demands for both "better schools" and "better schools of education". By providing high quality professional development for pre-service and in-service teachers, assisting faculty in identifying diverse settings for student clinical experiences, identifying school service and research opportunities for students and faculty, and assisting North Carolina public schools in closing the minority achievement gap will be accomplished through partnership development.
Purpose: The single most important strategy for achieving America's educational goals, according to What Matters Most: Teaching for America's Future(1996), is to implement a sound blueprint for recruiting, preparing, and supporting excellent teachers in all of America's schools. In discerning commitment to the implementation of this strategy, we are maintaining a commitment to our six partnership districts, (1) Durham Public Schools, (2) Franklin County Schools, (3) Person County Schools, (4) Wake County Public Schools, (5) Warren County Schools, (6) Weldon City Schools, and (7) Vance County Schools to provide support and professional development for all teachers. In keeping with this strategy, an advisory board has been established to build a team where trust among the partners will help us to identify priorities for improving public education and producing well-qualified educators.
Responsibilities of Advisory Board:
- Assist with identifying ways in which the university can assist with beginning teachers and career teachers
- Assist with devising powerful strategies for attracting talented people to teaching and to professions which support teaching
- Assist with developing and implementing a continuum of professional development, including redesigned pre-service preparation, induction, and continuing professional development
- Assist with developing and recommending policy initiatives and changes which support better teaching while enhancing teaching as a profession
- Provide feedback and support on programs offered by the School of Education to improve the preparation of well-qualified educators
