



Thomas L. Layton, Ph.D., CCC-SLP is the Chair and Professor of the Department of Communication Disorders at North Carolina Central University. Dr. Layton is a Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. He has also served as the President of the North Carolina Speech, Hearing and Language Association and the Departmental Chair of the Division of Speech and Hearing Sciences at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has received the Distinguished Service Award from the Exceptional Children Division, North Carolina Department of Public Instruction; Special Recognition Honors from the Triangle Down Syndrome Association; Outstanding Clinical Achievement Aware by American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation and North Carolina Speech, Hearing and Language Association. He has been trained by Division TEACCH in their approach with autism, the Hanen Program, Lindamood Program, as well as Applied Behavior Analysis. He has published more than 40 articles, edited/co-edited three books on child language disorders and/or autism, co-wrote a treatment book on autism, has standardized two tests, co-edited a volume for Seminars in Speech and Language on HIV in children, and presented nationally and internationally. He is the CEO/Owner of a private company, T and T Communication Services, Inc., that serves children with autism, Down syndrome, other genetic disorders, and executive function impairments.
Dr. Layton and his colleague, Dr. Grace Hao, have travelled to China to do a series of workshops in Beijing and in Guangzhou on autism. They have also presented at several conferences in China.
