Program Requirements: 50 Hours
Gateway 1: Admission to the Program (15 hours)
Requirements: Permanent initial licensure in elementary education or completion of prerequisite competencies

EDU 4300 - Computer Utilization - EDCI 5221 - Instructional Programs in Mathematics (3)
- EDEC 5620 - Introduction to Exceptional Children (3)
Gateway 2: General Curriculum Competencies (Initial Licensure Requirements 18 hours) Prerequisite for all classes EDEC 5620
- EDEC 5626 - Seminar in Cultural Diversity (1)
- EDEC 5621 - Classroom Management (3)
- EDEC 5671 - Assessment in Special Education (3)
- EDEC 5622 - Teaching Students with Special Needs in Elementary School (3)
- EDEC 5623 - Teaching Adolescents with Special Needs (3)
- EDEC 5624 - Seminar in IEP Collaborative Planning with Parents and Professionals (2)
- EDEC 5628 - Instructional Reading Strategies for Exceptional Children (3)
All students requesting initial licensure at this point in their program must complete EDEC 5690, Initial Practicum in Special Education (3)
Gateway 3: Advanced Curriculum Competencies (12 hours)
- EDGR 5915 - Statistics Applied to Educational Measurement or
EDGR 5910 (3) - EDGR 5925 - Applied Research Techniques or
EDGR 5920 (3) - EDEC 5635 - Current Research and Leadership Issues in Special Education (3)
- EDEC 5695 - Professional Practicum (3) Permission of advisor required.
Prerequisite is two years of successful teaching in special education or EDEC 5690
