Departments | Teaching Fellows Program
The Teaching Fellows Program provides a $6,500 per year scholarship for four years to 400 outstanding North Carolina high school seniors. Recipients must be legal residents of North Carolina and citizens of the United States. Upon acceptance of the scholarship, the student agrees to teach for four years following graduation from college in one of North Carolina's public schools or United States Government schools in North Carolina. If the recipient cannot repay the scholarship through service, the loan is repaid to the State with a 10 percent interest. Fellows are required to participate in campus sponsored activities during the academic semester such as seminars, travel experiences, workshops and conferences and community service with the public schools as well as summer activities (Discovery, Jr./Sr. Conference, Jr. Enrichment activities, Senior Orientation) sponsored by the state program.
North Carolina Teaching Fellows who choose to attend North Carolina Central University (NCCU) will become a part of a proud tradition of Teacher Education. NCCU has a long history of training teachers who provide quality instruction to all students in public schools across the state and nation.
The NCCU Teaching Fellows Program is uniquely designed to facilitate your growth as a teacher in the State of North Carolina. Its graduates continue to make outstanding contributions to the teaching profession. Many have become Teachers of the Year and others have served on state and national committees. NCCU enrolls approximately 8,000 students who attend small student centered classes.
The Teacher Education Program at NCCU supersedes all standards of a quality program put forth by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and North Carolina Department of Instruction. The School of Education, reflecting the multicultural nature of our society, is open to undergraduate and graduate students regardless of race, gender, age, religion or special needs.
The Teaching Fellows Program at NCCU is close knit and fosters a family like atmosphere where people care and know your name.
