Use of an Interactive Narrative Agent Dr. Heronimous Foogar ©:
I enjoy using a plethora of technology-based methods to make teaching and the learning envionment dynamic, interesting, engaging, and fun! The image above illustrates this concept in my use of Dr. Heronimous Foogar in a Faculty Workshop. The majority of my research focuses on the use of Hypermedia and dynamic content to aid in the retention and transfer of knowledge. You can explore an example of this as you engage in conversation wth Dr. Foogar as he guides you through the remainder of this webpage... Dr. Foogar will narrate as you scroll down and present some interesting tidbits of information on me. Without further adieu, here's our alligator of the hour: Dr. Foogar!
Heronimous take it away...
Dr. Foogar © on the School of Education
The School of Education is committed
to developing educators who are caring, committed, communicative, and culturally
competent. As a part of "Preparing Educators for Diverse Cultural Contexts" the School of Education uses technology as an effective teaching and learning
tool. The Graduate Program in Educational Technology is designed to develop
independent study, originality, and competence in research in the application
of critical thinking to solve professional problems. The program places
emphasis on student growth and development in a variety of areas which include:
the principles of instructional design, problem solving skills, collaborative
efforts, and the many aspects of technology.
Dr. Foogar © Describes The School of Education Conceptual Framework
Educators for Diverse Cultural Contexts is the School of Education Conceptual
Framework that under girds the instructor's commitment to prepare candidates
to excel in variety of racial, cultural, and socio-economic environments.
Candidates will gain the ability to see the social and political implications
of their actions and the social contexts in which they are carried out.
As a result, they will hone their skills and knowledge to promote greater
equality, justice, and humane conditions in both educational settings and
society abroad.
Dr. Foogar © on the Osler Teaching Philosophy
Osler is a somewhat enthusiastic teacher... Rather
passionate about his profession... Quite energetic and animated! You have
to see this fellow in action! Come by and pay him a visit! Who knows? I
may even show up!
Here is a bit on his teaching style and Educational Philosophy that I pulled from one of his Course Syllabi:
Dr. Osler's Educational Philosophy
I view the learning environment in higher education as a Dynamic Cognitive
Economy. The term Cognitive Economy is a phrase that describes the classroom
as a self directed conduit of knowledge. I describe a Dynamic Cognitive
Economy as an energetic collaborative classroom in which candidates share
experiences and perspectives as they master course content. Candidates in
all of my classes are encouraged to be creative as they learn. I encourage
their learning with positive reinforcement and enthusiasm. I believe that
learning is active as well as empowering and should be nurturing and cultivated
with the right amount of rigor and resources. Candidates should problem-solve
through methods that are relevant and make use of discovery, learning style,
mastery, experiences, gifts, and talents. I seek to make this course relevant
to the candidate by creating a positive learning environment that focuses
on their personal goals and objectives while encouraging them to study and
research their own innovative ideas.
