North Carolina Central University’s School of Education (SOE) has a strong legacy of success, evidenced by its graduates. Those who complete degree programs in the SOE often are recognized by their peers, appreciated by those they serve, and rise to high ranks within their chosen career path.
Education is a power profession given that it is the gateway to every imaginable career. The work of an educator touches nearly every member in a wide range of communities. The SOE not only seeks to produce more educators but also to produce educators who are well equipped to prepare future generations for success in fields as they become apparent. True power professionals are not defined by race, gender, income or any other strata used in research. They are defined by the quality of the social interaction that is a catalyst for learning across a lifetime. Therefore, the SOE embraces and holds dear a legacy of developing culturally responsive professionals who propel human growth for current and future generations.
Preparing classroom teachers is the foundation of our work in the SOE but it is not all that we do. We also prepare principals, counselors, speech-language pathologists, educational technologists, as well as special educators who work with exceptional children and those who are blind or visually impaired. We prepare professionals to work with an array of human conditions, in diverse settings. As change comes with the passage of time, so does the process of preparing students for higher levels of study and to attain career success. The SOE is well equipped for this task, with a quality faculty, high standards for educational excellence, state-of-the-art instructional facilities, a PRAXIS Learning Lab, simulated learning opportunities with practitioners in various fields, and the development of a comprehensive assessment system that supports continuous improvement. We are positioned well to carry on the tradition of quality instruction that produces successful students in whatever field of study they choose to pursue.
