Add-on Licensure Program
Program for Candidates with a Clear North Carolina License Seeking to add-on another area of licensure.
**Note: If an individual holds a clear North Carolina License and would like to add an additional area, other than those listed below, it may be possible to take Praxis II and add the subject area that way.

Requirements
Applicant must:
- Hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and,
- Completed his or her degree with a 2.5 GPA or higher
- Hold a current clear license from NCDPI.
Admissions
After submitting a complete application packet the applicant will be considered for admission to NCCU. The individual’s credentials will be evaluated and a program of study will be created outlining the coursework necessary to earn a clear add-on license. Please allow 30 days from the date of receipt for the program of study to be returned. (Failure to submit all documents at one time will result in further delay of this process.)
**Note: If the applicant fails to attend NCCU in the semester following admission he/she will have to contact the Alternative Licensure Office to be readmitted and pay the application fee.
Transcript Evaluation Process
- The Program Director/Coordinator will review transcript (s).
- The Program Director/Coordinator will outline a program of study to follow. This plan will include the Content Area courses, Professional Knowledge course, field experience, and test required.
- The program of study and additional information will be sent via US mail to the applicant.
- After receiving the program of study please contact the Advisor listed to discuss the plan and registration for the upcoming semester.

Admission Requirements for School Administration include:
- Hold a master’s degree in an education related field from a regionally accredited institution.
- Have three (3) years of successful teaching experience, OR three (3) years of other professional education experience (e.g., counselor, media specialist, etc.), OR hold an appointment as an assistant principal.
- Provide two letters of recommendation from persons qualified to assess professional performance and comment on potential leadership abilities. One letter of recommendation should be from the current supervisor/principal.
- Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 in all graduate coursework.
- Provide evidence of agreement from principal for internship placement (Assurance Form)
- Assessment team review and recommendation to the Dean of the School of Education for unconditional admission to the program.

- EDAM 5360- Resource Management and Community Relations- 3 hrs. (NCDPI Standards 1 – 6)
Semester II
- EDAM 5110- School Law for Educational Leadership- 3hrs. (NCDPI Standards 5 and 6)
- EDAM 5210- Curriculum Leadership and Learning Theory- 3 hrs. (NCDPI Standards 1 and 2)
Year II -- (Yearlong Internship and Seminar)
- EDAM 7010- Internship Seminar- 3 hrs. (team taught --MSA

Prospective students must submit a complete application packet to the Alternative Licensure Office before the application/transcript evaluation request will be processed. Failure to submit all documents together will result in a delayed admission. Official transcripts should not be forwarded directly to our office. If you received your bachelor degree from NCCU you must still request a transcript through the University Registrar.A complete application packet includes:

Transcripts
An official transcript is required from all institutions from which you have taken courses. Your application is not complete and ready to be reviewed by faculty until all transcripts are received.
A non-refundable $40 application fee is required for each program to which you apply. Applicants can pay their application fee by mailing a check or money order made payable to NCCU. To pay by credit card, payment must be made at the NCCU Bursars’ Office and a receipt must be included in the application packet. Applications that arrive without the required application fee will remain on file, unprocessed, pending receipt of the application fee. If someone is paying the application fee for you, please ask him or her to include your name as the intended applicant when they submit the check or money order.
Mailing Instructions
Applicants are responsible for directing required materials to the Office of Alternative Licensure Programs. Please send all documents in one envelope. DO NOT have transcripts forwarded directly to NCCU. Your transcripts must accompany all other required documents. Failure to direct materials per the instructions will result in delays in the processing of your application. The School of Education cannot be responsible for materials not submitted in accordance with these instructions.
