FAQ’s
How long will it take for me to finish the program?
It depends based on the individualized course of study and how many courses you will take each semester.
Why might I consider a Second Degree?
Some candidates have taken no classes in the area in which they are seeking licensure; therefore they would have to take all required courses. The courses required for obtaining an initial license through the licensure-only program may be the same courses required to obtain an undergraduate degree in addition to completing a concentration area and a few extra courses. Thus, some choose to get a second degree along with their license.
What classes will I have to take?
The Program Coordinator in the Content Area determines Requirements for Licensure-Only students and others. You will need a University Catalog, the Teacher Education Manual and Curriculum checklists from your content area in order to be fully informed of your program.
What is Lateral Entry?
Lateral entry provides a way for skilled individuals who are interested in teaching but did not receive an education degree to enter the teaching profession. The individual completes an approved education program while teaching in a field which relates closely to the field he/she received a 4 year degree in. If you have additional questions, you may contact Caroline Isenhower at 919-858-1768 about Wake County Schools.
Are all of the classes offered online?
Some of the classes are offered online through distance education and many are offered in the evening to serve our non-traditional student population.
Can I work while in school?
Certainly. The course offerings are catered to the non-traditional student.
